Lower East Side

Lower East Side New York City Once a predominantly Jewish neighborhood, today the lower east side is home to a number of diverse ethnic backgrounds. You can find anything from bargain beats on Orchard Street to the best pastrami sandwich at Katz's delicatessen (the oldest and largest real New York deli). Try the 32 flavors of wine at Shapiro's Winery or freshly baked unleavened bread at Streit's bakery. At night check out a great mix of live bands and DJs at Pianos (a former piano store) or for a little more variety check out some avant-garde jazz, rock and electronic music acts at Tonic. If you have a thirst for some more culture Chinatown and Little Italy are only a few blocks away and they're worth the visit.

The modern Lower East Side is an interesting mix of New York cultures and is located just North and West of the East River. The LES, as it is known, has easy access to Brooklyn via the Williamsburg and Brooklyn Bridges. Cross over and visit famous Peter Luger's Steakhouse or head to Williamsburg for it's great bar scene. Small yet eclectic, the Lower East Side has great access to many other fabulous New York neighborhoods.
