The area just below midtown west is home to many artists who cannot afford the extraordinary prices of SoHo. However, gay-friendly Chelsea has become an increasingly more attractive place for doctors, lawyers, and other professionals to live. Luxury rentals have sprung up along Sixth Avenue which has attracted a more diverse demographic population. Another main attraction for newcomers to Chelsea is Chelsea Piers, a huge sports complex alongside the Hudson River.
Chelsea is a host to fantastic art galleries and restaurants. In addition, walk along Ninth and Tenth Avenues between 20th and 21st Street and you will find historic Cusman Row houses, which were built in the early 1800's.
